Talas War (751)
|
Pursuant to the caliphate of Abbasi dynasty,
the struggles carried out against the Turks slowed down and eventually ended like in other
fronts. In the period when Abbasi people seized the power, the developments in the East
caused to the formation of the Turkish-Arabian struggles with a new shape that continued
for centuries. While the Turkish-Arabian struggles continued in the Transoxania, some of
Turk Beys wanted help from China against this new enemy. China got the benefit of this
invitation in order to establish dominion over Turkestan. Therefore, China started to
expand towards the West with a large army in the year of 747. However, the severe stance
of China and the murder of Bagatur Tudun who was the bey of Tashkent led the Turks to
apply for the help of Ebu Muslim who was the governor of Khorasan connected to the Abbasi
state. Ebu Muslim accepted this offer for help in advance and sent an army in the
commandof Ziyad b. Salih against the China forces. Turk-Muslim allied forces fought
confronted the China forces in the region near Alma-Ata of today on the banks of Talas
stream in the year of 751. In the severe war that continued for five days in July 571,
Chinese people suffered a lot of casualties and they retreated from the battlefield.

- Talas War is the
turning point in Turk-Muslim relations. Upon this war, the wars that continued for
centuries were substituted by the period of peace. From that date on, there were not
severe wars between Turks and Arabians. Instead of the wars, the commercial relations
developed and the religion of Islam started to get acquainted and diffused among the
Turks.
