Cagri and Tugrul Brothers

When Seljuk Bey had died, his grandchildren named as Cagri and Tugrul Beys were at the age of 17-21 respectively and they were commissioned in the state administration as "beys".The beys that were the members of Seljuk family were subject to the new Yabgu, Arslan Bey, but they could set out with the forces in their command. Although these forces had sometimes supported the Samani State, this state was defeated by Karahanli State. The Western Karahanli State captured the region of Bohkara-Samarkand. Under these circumstances, the Seljuk Beys were face to face with Karahanli State and moreover, Karahanli State had collaborated with the Gazneli State. The Western Karahanli State was afraid of Seljuk State.

They wanted to attract them on their side in order to get the benefit of their forces, but on the other hand, they did not want to rely on them. The reciprocal lack of confidence gradually increased and the war was inevitable. Before this war, Tugrul and Cagri brothers applied to Bugra Khan who was the ruler of the Eastern Karahanli State and they wanted him to take side with them. Then, they went to the region of Talas in accordance with the demand of Bugra Khan since the place that they resided in was not sufficient for them.

Bugra Khan was also afraid of the Seljuk State since he knew that the Seljuk people were in pursuit of khanate. Therefore, he arrested Tugrul Bey on the pretext of a conflict among them. Tugrul Bey's brother, Cagri Bey (also called as Çakir Bey) overcame the forces of Bugra Han with a severe maraud, he took some of the commanders as prisoners and saved his brother, Tugrul Bey.

When Tugrul and Cagri Beys returned to Transoxania and the environs of Bokhara, these regions were submissive to the domination of Ali Tegin from the Western Karahanli family. While Ali Tegin resisted against Seljuk people with his military forces, he wrote some letters to the rulers and sultans in Turkestan and wanted help from them.
In brief, due to the political pressures on one hand, and the lack of enough place and grassy lands on the other hand, Seljuk people had to organise a raid towards Anatolia in order to find a more peaceful region for living.
