Enthronement of Alp Arslan

Since Sultan Tugrul Bey did not have any children, he had bequeathed in his lifetime that Suleyman, one of the sons of Cagri Bey would be enthroned. This will was realised by the Seljuk vizier, Amid el-Mülk and Suleyman was enthroned as sultan in the city of Rey. However, Alp Arslan, the other son of Cagri Bey and Kutalmis, the son of Arslan Yabgu and some other emirs and princes did not recognise the sultanate of Suleyman. The prayers were delivered in the name of Alp Arslan in the city of Kazvin. When Kutalmis came in front of the city of Rey and besieged the city, Vizier Amid el-Mülk had to demand the help of Alp Arslan and he had the prayers delivered in the name of Alp Arslan. Kutalmis fought with Alp Arslan in a place near Damegan and lost his life for the sake of sultanate (1064). Alp Arslan ascended the throne of the Seljuk State in the city of Rey. Then, he dismissed Amid el-Mülk from the position of vizier and assigned Nizam ul-Mulk instead of his place.
