Sultan Melikshah

Pursuant to the death of Alp Arslan, his son, Melikshah that he was bequeathed as the heir apparent in his lifetime ascended the throne of the Great Seljuk State. The Vizier, Nizamu'l-Mulk had played an important role in the enthronement of Melikshah. Kavur who was Melikshah's uncle and the ruler of Kirman did not recognise his sultanate. Melikshah won the war that was carried out between the two sides within the environs of Hamedan due to the good command of Nizamu'l-Mulk. Then, Kavurd was taken as prisoner and strangled with the string of his bow (1073). Afterwards, Melikshah advanced towards the Gazneli State and Karahanli State that got the benefit of the death of Alp Arslan and attacked to the borders of Seljuk State. The Gazneli State had to propose the state of peace as a result of this movement. This proposal was accepted and marriage relationship was established between the two dynasties. Sultan Melikshah showed his superiority against the Karahanli State and he firstly penetrated into the city of Tirmiz. Then, he advanced towards Samarkand. As a result, Sems ul-Mulk who was the ruler of Karahanli State had to beg pardon and a state of peace was established through the mediation of Nizamu'l-Mulk (1073-4). Sultan Melikshah moved the centre of the state to Isfahan.
