Sultan Melikshah had organised his first military
expedition to Georgia in the year of 1076 and he assigned the task of the administration
of the entire Caucasus to one of the commanders named as Emir Savtegin. However, upon the
defeat of Savtegin against the Georgians, Sultan Melikshah had to arrange his second
military expedition to Georgia between the years of 1078-79. The failures and defeats of
Emir Savtegin continued later, and upon these events, Georgians and the Byzantine had set
in motion. Sultan Melikshah sent Emir Ahmed to this region for this time. Emir Ahmed captured Kars and subdued
this city under the domination of Turks (1080). The Turkish emirs named as Ebu Yakub and
Isa Bori captured the coastal region of the Black Sea extending towards the Coruh valley
and Trebizond (1080). Sultan Melikshah advanced towards the Caucasus again in the
beginning of the year of 1086. Ani emir, Menucehr Ebu'l-Fazl and Shirvan Ruler, Feriburz
declared their submission and admitted to pay an annual tax. Sultan Melikshah advanced
towards the coasts of the Black Sea. Similarly, Seljuk emir Bozan captured Gence and
abolished the dominion of Sheddadi people in this region.
