| Fahr
ud-Devle Muhammed b. Cuheyr was the son-in-law of the Vizier, Nizam ul-Mulk and obe of the
leading statesmen of the period. He asserted the wealth of the Mervani State and
encouraged and persuaded Sultan Melikshah for an organisation of a military expedition to
the region of Diyarbekir. Sultan Melikshah had assigned Fahr ud-Devle as the emir of
Diyarbekir and he sent a large army including Artuk Bey and the Arabian emir Seyf ud-Devle
to Diyarbekir (1084). This Seljuk army captured the big cities such as Amid (Diyarbekir),
Meyyfakirin, etc. and dominated the region of Diyarbekir, and thus, abolished the Mervani
State (1085).
Sultan Melikshah got
angry with the Mosul emir, Seref el-Devle Muslim who had provided help to the Mervani
State and he advanced upon Mosul and took the delivery of the city. However, his brother,
Tekis had rebelled in Khorasan at the same time. Therefore, he left Serefu'd-devle Muslim
at his place. Then, Sultan Melikshah advanced against Tekis and he forcibly took him out
of the castle of Tirmiz that he had taken shelter in. Then, he burnt his eyes out and
arrested him (1085). Therefore, he had eradicated one of the significant rivals of hmi
that posed an obstacle to him in the course of his external expeditions.
