Murder of
Nizamu'l-Mulk |
Nizam ul-Mulk who was the vizier of the Seljuk State
since the period of Sultan Alp Arslan was on strained terms with Sultan Melikshah. There
were various reasons of this conflict. Sultan's wife, Terken Tarun wanted to assign his
son, Marhun who was four years old as the crown prince, but Nizam ul-Mulk supported the
other crown prince named as Berkyaruk. This situation led Terken Hatun to be in opposition
to him. Furthermore, Nizam ul-Mulk's sons, grandsons and relatives had taken important
ranks within the state and they had behaved with firm and harsh attitudes against the
retinue of the sultan. Those who longed to possess his post upon the influence that Nizam
ul-Mulk had acquired played important role in bringing discord between the sultan and
vizier. Due to this discord, he was not dismissed from his post. Finally, Nizam ul-Mulk
was killed by a young person from Deylem who was a bouncer of Ismaili in the position of
Sihne on the road of Isfahan-Baghdad (14th October 1092).
