Sultan Muhammed Tapar has taken strict precautions against
the movement of Batini that gradually developed in the region. As a result of an
expedition, the castles of Shahdiz and Han-Lincan near Isfahan that were under the
dominion of Batini supporters were captured (1107). The complaints about the Batini
supporters increased gradually in the castle of Alamut. Upon this event, Sultan Muhammed
sent an army to this castle in the command of his Vizier, Ziyâ ul-Mulk Ahmed b. Nizâm
ul-Mulk and the Tutor, Cavli (August 1109). Although Alamut was besieged by the Seljuk
army, the approach of the season of winter prevented the obtainment of any positive result
from this blockade. Sultan Muhammed Tapar organised military expeditions in order to
disturb the Batini supporters nearly in every year. Between the year of 1111-1112, Emir
Anustegin Sirgir was assigned to organise a military expedition over Batini followers. Anustegin captured several castles in the
region of Kazvin and Deylem. Sultan sent Anustegin against the Batini supporters in Alamut
for the last time. Anustegin besieged Alamut. While this castle was on the verge of
invasion, the Sultan died. The death of Sultan led to the dispersion of the Seljuk army
and thus, the exhibition ended without any positive results. When Muhammed Tapar
understood that he could not recover from the illness that he was infected, he declared
his son Mahmud who was then thirteen years old as the crown prince. After a short period,
he died at the age of thirty-six on the date of 18th April 1118. Sultan Muhammed Tapar had
united the Seljuk State that was on the verge of dissolution, and fought with both the
Crusades and the Batini supporters. Although he could not have a full success in these
fights, he prevented the dissolution of the state.
