Dulkadirogullari Principality     

 
         Principal Characters of Dulkadirogullari Principality
         Zeyneddin Karaca Ahmed Bey who was the founder of the principality was Hasan Dulkadir Bey’ son and Halil Bey Türkmen's grandson. He had been killed in Cairo at the age of eighty-three on the date of 11th December 1353. He had been contemporary with Orhan Ghazi. Then, he was replaced by his sons, Garseddin Halil and Şaban Süli Beys. Halil Bey was killed at the age of ninety-six. Suli Bey had married Habibe Selcuk Hatun who was the daughter of Kadı Burhâneddin. And this Hatum had died in 1447. The other sons of Karaca Bey were Sârimeddin Ibrahim, Isa, Osman, and Dâvûd beys. Davud Bey’s son was Tugruk Bey. Ibrahim Bey had claimed for sovereignty in the year of 1416 and taken shelter in the Ottoman State. He had become the bey of Harput in the year of 1386.
        Suli Bey’s son, Sadaka Bey had claimed for sovereignty for a period of 1 year, 3 months and 3 days since the date of 30th May 1398 until the date of 2nd September 1399. Suli Bey had had 3 daughters: His eldest daughter was married with Rahatoglu Alaeddin Ali Bey, his middle daughter was married with Kadi Burhanettin and his youngest daughter (Devlet Hatun) was married with Yıldırım Sultan Bayezid.
        Instead of Süli Bey, Halil Bey’s son, Nâsıreddin Mehmed Bey replaced him. His reign had lasted for 45 years since the year of 1443 until his death at the age of 77. He was married with Mısır Hatun who was Kadi Burhanettin’s daughter and the daughter of Tahatoglu Alaeddin Ali Bey. His brother was Ali Bey, and Ali Bey’s son, Hamza Bey had died in the year of 1436.
 
        In the place of Mehmed Bey, his eldest son, Suleyman Bey replaced him. He was killed in the year of 1454. His brothers were Rustem Bey, the bey of Elbistan who died in the year of 1500 (his daughter was Şems Hatun), Dâvûd Bey, and Feyyaz Bey who died at a very young age in the year of 1440. He also had 3 sisters: Emine Hatun was married with Celebi Sultan Mehmed. Their child from this wedlock was Sultan Murad II who was Fatih’s father. His other daughter was married with Sultan Çakmak who was the emperor of Egypt-Syria Turkish-Mameluke Empire. His other daughter was married with Cane Bey Sufi that was one of the Mameluke emirs in the year of 1437.
        In the place of Suleyman Bey, his 4 sons named as Melik Arslan, Shah Budak, Şehsuvâr and Alâuddevle Bozkurd Beys had relaced him respectively. Suleyman Bey^’s other sons were Abdürrezzak Bey who died when he was county bey of Köstencil in the Ottoman State in the year of 1516, Isa Bey, Hudâdâd Bey, Yahya Bey, Erduvâne Bey, Selmân Bey, Yûnus Bey, and Mogol Bey. His daughter, Sitti Hatun was married with the future Fâtih Sultan Mehmed in Edirne in the year of 14767; actually she was the daughter of Fatih’s eldest maternal uncle. Sehsuvar Bey died in Cairo in August 1472, and he was replaced by his brother, Shah Budak Bey for the second time. Pursuant to the dethronement of Shah Budak Bey, he died in the years of 1492. His sons were Zeyneddin Melik Arslan Bey who was killed when he was the governor of Humus subject to the Mameluke State in the year of 1516 and Shah Kubâd Bey whose eyes were burnt out by his paternal uncle, Bozkurd bey in the year of 1484.
         Bozkud Bey had died at the age of 87 on the date of 12th June 1515. It has been understood that the members of this dynasty had lived for long time. He was replaced by Sehsuvar Bey’s son, Ali bey. While he was the governor of Maras that was called as Dulkadir by the Ottomans under the Pasha title, he was killed together with his sons, Sari Arslan, Divane Veled, and Uveys Beys in the year of 1522. Upon his death, Dulkadirogullari principality had come to an end. His brother, Kasim Bey was the county bey of Sultanonu, in other words, Eskisehir in the Ottoman State.
         Bozkurd Bey was the maternal grandfather of Yavuz. Bozkurd Bey’s children were Şâhruh Bey who was country bey of Kirsehir and whose eyes were burnt out by his paternal uncle, Sah Budak Bey in the year of 1472, Durak Bey who was the bey of Hisn-i Mansûr (Adıyaman), Suleyman Bey who was the county bey of Bozok, in other words, Tozgat country in the Ottoman State that was killed in the year of 1514, Erduvâne Bey who was killed in the year of 1507, Sarı Kaplan Kasım Bey who was killed in the same year, Ahmed Bey, Begli Hatun who was asked for marriage by Shah Ismail Safevi, a Hatun that married Kayıtmerk Bey who was a Mameluke emir, and finally Ayse Hatun who married the future Sultan Bayezid II in nearly 1469 and gave birth to Yavuz Sultan Selim and died when Yavuz was the county bey of Trebizond.
        Sahruh Bey’s sons were Mehmed Han, Ali and Ahmed beys. Mehmed Han Pasha had died when he was the Ottoman governor of beys and the chief of the dynasty in the year of 1569. Ali Bey was also a bey of a county and he died towards the year of 1536. Ali Bey's son was Kara Han Bey, and his son was Cafer Bey. Cafer Bey was the county bey of Corum; he died in Kayseri towards the year of 1600.

           Afterwards, the territorial land of Dulkadirli principality had become a provincial governorship connected to the Ottoman State (1522).
           Dulkadirogullari had carried out several public works in various cities and particularly in the principal centres of Mardin and Elbistan. There are some works that have survived since that period until now such as; the mosques titled as Elbistan Ulu Câmii, Maraş Ulu Câmii, Maraş Hâtûniye Câmii, Dârende Ulu Câmii, Gaziantep Alâeddevle Câmii, the small mosque titled as Maraş İklime Hâtûn Mescidi, Kayseri Hâtûniye Theological School, the vault of Maraş Taş Medrese Künbeti and the vault of Hajji Bektash Balım Sultan Kümbeti, etc.
