In the period of Sultan Alp Arslan (1063-1072),
the Seljuk State captured this region and they reimbursed the appropriation of Tast-dar
people who were in the service of the palaces through the incomes collected from Harezm.
Anustegin who was the ancestor of Harezmshah people was a Turkish slave. He had been
purchased by one of the emirs called Bilge Tegin and brought to the Seljuk palace. He
showed himself within a short time due to his intelligence and diligence and he was
assigned as Tast-dar. He got benefit from the incomes of Harezm due to his services in the
palace, but he dominated this region through his regents that he sent from the centre
since he could not leave his office. Afterwards, it can be stated that this region was
under the domination of a governor called as Ikinci (Ekinci) b. Kockar in the period of
Seljuk Sultan Berkyaruk (1094-1105). Pursuant to the slaying of this person (1097),
Anustegin's son, Kutbettin Muhammed was assigned as the "Harezmshah". These
events could be considered as the first steps of the foundation of the Harezmshah State. Kutbeddîn Muhammed administered
Harezm in a lawful submission to the Seljuk State until his death. He tried to reinforce
and increase his influence and power in the region and he was successful in these efforts.
Kutbeddîn Muhammed would go to the palace of Sultan Sencer in a year and he would send
his elder son, Atsiz in the following year. Furthermore, in the course of this visit, he
would present the annual tax of Harezm together with the presents to Sultan Sencer and
declare his submission. Pursuant to his death, Sultan Sencer appointed his son, Atsiz as
"Harezmshah" in the place of him (1227).
