İl Arslan
(1156-1172) |
His son, Il-Arslan replaced Atsiz and he annihilated
his brothers and paternal uncles that opposed to him. Then, he ascended the throne of
Harezmshah State without any rivals. Pursuant to the death of Sultan Sencer (1157), he
established dominion in an independent manner. However, he could not get rid of the
obligation to pay taxes to Karahitay State. In order to get rid of this trouble, he tried
to provide the support of Iraq Seljuk State, but he could not succeed in these efforts. As
a matter of fact, Karahitay people advanced towards Harezm due to a conflict about the
taxes. Although Harezmshah people prevented them from invasion of the region through
digging reservoirs, their vanguard forces were defeated by Karahitay people in a crushing
manner. Il-Arslan who concurrently became sick died (19th March 1172).
