EVRENGZIB

       Evrengzib was born in 1658.

In the period of sultanate of Evrengzib (Alemgir the 1st) in India until 1707, the empire reached its broadest borders and all India underwent Turkish rule. Evrengzib was a religious Muslim, brave commander, good governor and innovative statesman. He killed his brothers beginning a war for the throne.

Evrengzip had good relations with Turkish and Muslim world, and did not have an important problem with his neighbors. He reduced the taxes collected from the people, and provided peace and order. He provided silver and golden money contributions to Yemen Imam and Ethiopia Ruler.

However, in his period, Hollanders attempted to deal with India trade after English. Therefore, they were given some privileges in Gucerat ports. He was complaining about the colonist attitude of foreign countries getting more and more everyday in his country However, he could do nothing except for rising customs duties a little more since his trade ships were protected by English against pirates in Indian Sea and since India's economic interests required their friendship.

Evrengzib is famous as the most equitable ruler of India. However, his biggest fault is that he did not take adequate number of Turkish soldiers from Turkistan to India. If he did that, he could be stronger and more successful against the Western people trying to capture the country and against the pressure of the majority.

Evrengzib died in 1707 and wars for throne, which turned into a bad tradition in all Turkish states started after him again.
