GAZAN KHAN           


       Gazan Khan was born in 1271. He is the son of Argun Khan.
 
       He is the seventh and biggest Ilhanli who reigned in Iran from Genghis Khan. He took Mahmut name after he accepted Islam. He ascended the throne in 1295 after some civil wars and ruled for nine years.
 
       During his reign, he lifted the tradition of worshipping idols and proclaimed Islam. He won many victories against Georgians, Anatolian Seljukian and Egyptians. That he killed Emir Nevruz, who had gained great success during his reign as a result of some inculcation of some jealous people is an event of his period against him.
 
       In an expedition against Egyptians by Gazan Khan, Kutluk Khan was routed. He died in 1304 when he was to march toward Syria to take revenge, and was buried in Tabriz.
 
       Gazan Khan is known as a well-informed and honest ruler. He had established important administrative and civil organizations in the country. He arranged Genghis Law as per the needs, and formed some unity about the form and value of money, and corrected post works. On one side of the money he minted bore his name and the other side the indication "God is one and Mohammed is His Prophet" in Arabic.
