Huseyin Baykara was born in 1430 in Herat.
He ruled Cürcah Mazenderan for a long time. Then he
became a ruler in Horasan. His ancestors go back to Tamerlane from his father and mother.
His grandfather is Mirza Baykara and his father is Mirza Mensur. He gained the love and
respect of his people during his reign of 36 years. Huseyin Baykara is a high person and
great ruler with his virtues such as governing with justice, the most beautiful of all
qualifications of a ruler, respecting poem and poets, maintaining culture and working for
strengthening of peace and order in the country.
Huseyin Baykara was a
great Turkish ruler appreciating science, art and artists, protecting them and who loved
justice. He was a good poet just as he was a hero warrior.
Huseyin Baykara
gathered scientists, artists and poets in his palace and established a Baykara council. So
could Turkish and Persian literature develop in his palace. The famous poet, Ali Şir
Nevai, was the closest friend of Huseyin Baykara and his vizier.
Baykara used to be in
the famous Molla Mosque in his council. He was a poet himself too. He has a divan and a
book named Meclisü'l-Uşşâk. In his divan, he gathered his Turkish and Persian poems.
Huseyin Baykara turned
Herat into a cultural environment. He opened many schools. He protected students from
faraway places gathering there, and made them study with the money from his treasury.
Science and literature advanced in his period.
Baykara died in 1505.
