The capital Supashkar is the cultural and educational
centre of Chuvashistan. Chuvashistan State University, the Pedagogy Institute, the
Institute of Agriculture, and the Trade Institute are located in the capital Supashkar.
The Academy of Sciences and the Chuvash National Academy that were founded in 1992 still
continue its operational activities in the capital city. In addition, there are also some
institutes for medical education, communication, administrative sciences, high technical
education and cultural institutes in Chuvashistan. There is a "Chuvash
Radio-Television" that broadcast in Chuvash language in the specific hours of the day
and some radios and newspapers that broadcast in Chuvash and Russian languages in
Chuvashistan. The biggest newspapers of Chuvashistan are "Hibar" (Haber-News)
published in Chuvash and "Sovyetskaya Çuvaşiya" published in Russian
languages.
"Hıbar" newspaper established in Kazan,
the capital of Tataristan in the year of 1906 gathered Chuvash intellectuals within its
environment in a short period. It was sometimes abrogated and then reestablished and
survived so far. Besides, there are some newspapers and magazines that operate in
Chuvashistan such as "Respublika", "Çıvaşyen", "Şamrıksen Haşaçi"
published simultaneously in Chuvash and Russian languages, "Tıvan Atıl",
"Yalav" (Bayrak-Flag), "Tantış" (Akran-Peer) published in Chuvash
language. The newspaper titled as "Lik Çuvaşi" (Chuvash People's Face) that
was published by the Famous Chuvash author, Boris Çindikov in Moscow aiming to introduce
Chuvash people provides great contribution to the Chuvash cultural life.
Theatre is highly
developed in Chuvashistan. There are several plays staged every day in the principal
theatres titled as "Çuvaş Akademi Dram Tiyatrosu" (Chuvash Academy and Drama
Theatre), "Şamrıksen Tiyarti", "Opera ve Bale Tiyarti" (Opera and
Ballet Theatre), "Pukani Tiyatri", "Vırıs Drama Tiyatri", etc. There
are 752 public libraries, 1113 clubs, 974 cinema halls, 11 museums, 3 concert and
philharmonic orchestra and 1 Academy of Songs and Dance in Chuvashistan. The cultural and
artistic education is highly developed in Chuvashistan. 12.250 children take education in
various colleges of culture, art and drawing.
