SETTLEMENT OF TURKS IN SYRIA

The commencement date of Turk migrations to Preliminary Asia hasn’t been known exactly. In fact, the migration of Turk clans to Anatolia and Syria goes back to the time the Turks appeared in history. Sakalar, Hazarlar, Hunlar and even Sumers are some of these. Probably from the date, when Islam Armies reached Middle Asia, raiders of Oğuz clans had been seen in Iraq and Syria-After moving of caliphate center to Baghdad in M-750 the influences and numbers of Turk commanders and soldiers started to increase rapidly in Abbasi Caliph Palaces.

After Seljuk Turks had won the Dandanakan war, which was made with Gazneliler in 1040, they went over to Rey, İstafan, Azerbaijan, Anatolia and Iraq. Hanoğlu Hasan who was the commander of the Turma’s tribe settled in Diyarbakir in 1063 and organized incursion to the land of Syria and Byzantium. Hanoğlu Hasan accepted the aid offer of the Mir Sadaoğulları in Aleppo there upon Turks started to go in Syria. Turk tribes, which were at Afşin and Sandul gentlemen’s commanded, had organized some tribes to the Aleppo. In 1069-1070 Kurlu and Atsız Gentlemen had settled in Remle and captured the south of Syria.

Turman’s tribes exposing the pressure of Mongols and the military of Crusaders had migrated sometimes from Anatolia to Syria, sometimes from Syria to Anatolia. On being beaten of the military of Anatolian Seljuk against Mongols in Kosedağ War in 1243,Turkman’s tribes had come to the Aleppo and settle in there with the community containing 40,000 tents at Sultan Baybars time. Thus in the half of the country of Turkmen. As approval of the historical knowledge, which we had given today the same race live in the other regions including Damascus there are many Turks living as minorities.
