Lazkiye which
is the biggest port town of Syria, after 1950 had made a big development from now an as
supplement to the Turk population in city center from the Turkmen villages which is in
abroad a lot of people had migrated to the city center. The Turkmen who migrated from the
villages, as majority, the enter doors and north direction of Lazkiye, established cities
with the name of Turkmen stud and street at various suburbs of the city.
Totally, there are 265 Turk villages in this region; these are 6 connected to Lazkiye
province and Kesep Nahiye, in the region of Bucak along coast 84, 2 connected to
Behlüliye Nahiye; the north of Kebele which connected to Bayır Nahiye 27, the east of
Kebele 8, the south of Kebele II, the west of incesu toward south 28, and in the ease of
incesu, toward east 29; toward Turk boundary region of the river of Çercüm 17; the east
of Cebeli Seman with Nahiye center 16; the south of Kilis which connected to Azer village
(between Azer and Afşin Water), 17 and 13 nort of Kilis.
Before Ottoman government collapsed, Aleppo was
the administrative center the Turk population like Gaziantep, Damascus and Hatay. Today,
Aleppo is the administrative center of the Kurtdağ, Azar, Bab, Müncib and Carablus where
Turkmen live in majority. Still ,Alleppo is the city where there are a lot of Turk
architectural and work of art and Turkish is being spoken at this street. Aleppo province
year book, which had been published in 1906 contains a lot of Turkısh street names.
These are Hamdiye, Aziziye Selimiye, Akyon, Altunboğaz, Oğulbey, Badıncık,
Ballıbulgur, Tatarlar, Karaman, Çukurova, öukurkestal, Hamazabey,Hensebil, Haraphan,Şakirağa,
Saçlıhan,Kilise, Mahmutbey, Mistadembey, Harundere.
In addition to these streets, which are in
city, totally there are 350 Turk villages in Aleppo. These are, the district of Kurdayı
105, the district of Azer 46; the district of Bab 51, the district of Münbia 53 the
district of Carablus 95. We said that there are many areas where Turks live except these
two regions in Syria. These environs are:
- TEKKELE
This area is a part between Hama-Humus cities
of Syria and Lebanon boundary. Generally, Turkmen live in cities, but important community
of Turkmen live in Hama city.
- KUNAYTARA
This area is at the Israeli boundary
of Syria. During 93 battle (1877-1878) Turks who had been brought from Daghestan and
Karachay region of Caucasus, had been settled in these regions. But, some people had
migrated to Aleppo and Damascus by leaving their country after Arabia-Israel war.
