THE SEPARATION OF SYRIA FROM TURKEY

Ottoman lands in Syria were shared with Sykes-Picot treaty. According to this treaty signed by mark Sykes, on behalf of the English and Georges Picot, on behalf of finances.

France was going to travel Ürdün, Iraq and North Filistin. On the rest of the Filistin lands , it was decided to establish an international regime and Arab State with no clear boundries. Western countries put forward “ Arab nationallism “ to fulfill their ambitions on Middle east and in the dominant of Turks for centuries, and also tried to set Arab tribes quarrelling and fighting.

Arab nationalist having big ambitions on “Big Arabia”, “Big Syria” don’t even know about Sykes-Picot treaty. Apart from this treaty, Western countries’ second play against Arabs, will be brought up with the explanation of Lord Balfour including the decision that Jewish will settle in Palestine region. Arabs uninformed of these developments, was cooperating and bargaining with the English and the French who had shared the region according to Mondros Armistice Treaty. And Turks living in the region immediately assembled defense forces in Aleppo and Lazkiye and struggled against occupations. Arabs hardly realized that the promises made were in vain. With San Remo treaty signed between France and England, Syria and Palestine was left to France mandate. UN accepted Mandate Decision on 29 September 1923. In 1936 with Vionet treaty, Syria was given its independence. Then, Turkey put 1920 Ankara into practice, and after long and difficult stages, Hatay was given to Turkey.
