ASSIMILLATION POLITIY AGAINST TURKS   

           Because of the policy which was pursued by Syria for Arabic ,Turks living in Aleppo had

lost their national identities rapidly one of the regions where Turks live in Aleppo,in which The TurkishNational Struggle for Independence were lasting,was wanted to participate in “Misak-ı Milli”and here”Kuvay-ı Milliye” was constituted.But in 20 October 1920 After Ankara Itilafname had been signed,this zone was abondened to Syria which was France’s mandate.

 

          While French mandate was going on in Syria,a Turkish newspaper which was called

“Doğru Yol” commence having  been published in Aleppo in 1922.This newspaper’s publication

could have been continued by 1926.After words once again “Vahdet Gazetesi” and weekly

“Yeni Mecmua” were come out.This magazine were given as a name “Yeni Gün” and it went on its

publication period by 1936. However,after this date any kind of Turkish publication was prohibited

in Syria.

 

          Out of Former ambassador and consulates, even citizens,Turkish publications,book,

magazine ,haven’t been given their owners by PTT management and they have been annihilated .

Today despite living in Syria approxomately 1 million Turks,they are struggling as a minortiy whose

existence, publication member,assaciation and schools aren’t known.as a result of Turks ,living near

Turkey’s border,caused suspicious in Syria.Turks were striven to break off the relation with their

Ambassador and consulate.Turks had to keep away from official mission in order not to expose

 the management of Syria’s pressure and injustice.

 

         Against Turks living in Syria was pursued Arabic policy.Thus,Turks couldn’t have organized

and Syria made use of this situation.After Hatay had united with homeland,the pressure carried out

by Syria was increased.Passport wasn’t given Turks wanting to come to Turkey .As for as Turks

coming to Turkey secretly was removed citizenship and their property was extorted.Turks primary

schools weren’t located the places whereTurks living densenly.Because of being education in

Arabic caused an unwillingness against to learn in Turks,who connect their culture.Those

wanting to educate in Turkey only could come Turkey from another Arabic country.

 

        Not only had been many of their rights restricted but also rights of choise and  was chosen

restricted with various excuses.The land,belonging toTurks,was nationalized and Arabics were

settled these places under the name of land reform.The region Turks,accepted by Syria as Turkey

spies,made any pressure and digestive policies.In the region,the practises have been carried out as

exterminating the existence of Turks and converting Turks villages names.

 

         Besides the Turks were going ahead in the wars as Iraq and Iran wars.Despite being wide

masses of Turks who didin’t lost their national identitiy in Syria,few of these people were panned

Arabic largely.This situation based on that Turkish enmity becoming fanatic in the region of Arabic

public in order to get hold of the Middle East by the English and France and they caused their

thoughts reflecting against Turks as hatred and pressure.The oppressions,which was economical,

cultural and administrative,carried out by Syria govenments is possible to count some topics as

spoken language being Arabic,Turkish radio broadcast not listened during the ages from Syria,

sport and cultural activities being prevented.

 

          The oppression policy carried out the Syria Turks had an important place in economical

land as well.Turks living in rural areas generally have been living on with agriculture,stock raising or

textiles.As a result of the attitude pursued by Syria’s authorities.The Turks economical situations

 have been deteriorating recently.Although Bayır-Bucak Turkman being  the peasant of forest, they

come to a state of not providing even using wood as fuel during winter.

 

          Tobacco,was a major source of income for Turks,stopped growning by some methods used

in Greece and Bulgaria leading the top and some of the Balkan states as formally and informaly such as buying the pruduct cheaply,biding according to indentities of producers and restricting the field of planting.Even if Turks,who couldn’t have got income from tobacca,started to apple production ,they were buying it so cheap that they didn’t get income from it as well.Wheat and barley are grown a small quantity since the land is mountainous and covered with trees.As for as stock raising,it is making in coops and barn.In spite of the fact that Turks living in Aleppo in good state than Turks living in different places,large territories were not remained their hands after the end of land reform.

          Government made difficult usage of bank loan belonging agriculture as all of the topics. People, prefering higher education in order not to struggle forming or stock raising,is being dismissed on their returns from Turkey.Turks living in Syria are trying to struggle for their existence under violations of human rights as people at the same race living the other places in forms of minority.It is not possible  to say that this attempt is useful.Unfortunately,a small number of the people the same race in Syria has been panning Arabic.In contrast to Turkey didn’t pursued a policy,which was preventive Syria Turk’s rights,because of the tension Syria’s regime can be increased.
